PDR (The National Centre for Product Design & Development Research) is launching a new ‘Insight Laboratory’ facility to compliment their Product Development service portfolio. Providing clients with a purpose build observation laboratory, the centre aims to add value to the front end observational understanding of products and services alike of the consumer markets to which their products target.
PDR’s User-Centric Design Laboratory Centre provides a structured and cost-effective service for capturing user requirements throughout the product development process. The Centre adapts the applied ethnography principles implemented by large technology firms and creates a unique Rapid Ethnographic Analysis service that is accessible to companies of all sizes. This is achieved through access to:
• A dedicated and customisable space to observe users with products;
• Video and audio technology linked to specialist ethnographic analysis software;
• Rapid prototyping technologies to quickly test user experiences with new product options
• Experienced design researchers to undertake analysis of potential products in use;
• Experienced design practitioners to synthesise the research output in product design and development.
• Bringing together rapid prototyping, video ethnography and design expertise creates a unique opportunity for the generation of new products and services that better address potential customers’ value expectations, leading to improved market relevance and reducing product development risk.
